Two people have been remanded into police custody after being suspected of robbing a nurse of her Toyota Corolla, worth GHS150,000.00, and an iPhone, worth GHS3,500.00.
According to the prosecution, the accused also stole the complainant's Samsung S10 mobile phone, worth GHS3,200.00, a quantity of Brazilian hair worth GHS50,000.00, and other personal items.
For robbery and conspiracy to conduct crime, Jerry Maglo Senam, an Okada rider, and jobless Michael Mensah, also known as "Ayellow," are both in custody.
Their accomplices, including Eric Bawa alias "Jupitar," an Okada rider; Abdul Salam Dauda, a scrap dealer; Abdul Aziz Salisu, a trader; George Kwame Azuma, a vehicle dealer; Sadat Mohammed, a scrap dealer; and others, were also accused of dishonestly receiving.
"Sixty-four," one of the conspirators, is still at large.
To the accusations made against them, each and every accused individual has entered a not guilty plea.
Four of the accused were represented by Samuel Ofori, who requested release on their behalf, arguing that his clients weren't flight risks because they arrived at court without the assistance of the police after being granted bail for a police investigation. If given bail, "My clients will always avail themselves to stand trial," he continued.
Two of the accused were also represented by Moses Ansah, who requested bail on the basis that his clients had stable residences and reliable sureties.
The prosecution attorney, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Emmanuel Haliga, did not oppose the bail requests but asked the court to impose conditions that would require them to consistently appear in front of it for trial.
He said that Mensah and Senam lacked a fixed address since they were unable to provide the police with a home number.
Senam is a Togolese national, thus there is no assurance that, if given bail, he will appear in court, according to the prosecution.
So, it was urged that Mensah and Senam be kept in custody in order to conduct more research.
Mensah and Senam were consequently remanded into police custody by the Evelyn Asamoah-presiding court, which also accepted their bail of GHS150,000.00 each with three sureties.
