Alejandro Garnacho signs new Manchester United contract
Manchester United have secured the future of Alejandro Garnacho by signing him to a new five-year contract until June 2028. The 18-year-old Argentina forward was signed by United from Atletico Madrid in 2020 when he was 16 years old. Garnacho has broken into the first team at Old Trafford this season under the guidance of manager Erik ten Hag. He has already made 31 first-team appearances and has scored twice in the FA Youth Cup final as United lifted the trophy for the 11th time last season.
In a statement, Garnacho expressed his pride and emotion at experiencing moments such as playing at Old Trafford, scoring his first goal, and winning trophies with Manchester United. He is looking forward to creating more special memories with the team in front of their amazing supporters. Garnacho also spoke highly of the manager and coaching staff, who have helped him improve in every way and develop each day to help the team be successful.
United's Director of Football, John Murtough, expressed his confidence in Garnacho's exciting development under the guidance of Erik and his staff. He described the teenager's talent, drive, and determination to succeed as the reasons why he quickly progressed from the academy to the first team. Murtough believes that Garnacho has huge potential and is looking forward to working with him to ensure he fulfils his ambitions at Manchester United in the coming years.
Garnacho has been out with an ankle problem since mid-March, which has made him absent from United's last five league squads. However, Ten Hag revealed that Garnacho will return to partial team training on Friday and could be back part of the matchday squad for the visit of Aston Villa on Sunday. Ten Hag also revealed that he will not release Garnacho to take part in the FIFA U20 World Cup over the summer, as the tournament begins before the Premier League season ends.
United are currently six points ahead of Aston Villa, although Ten Hag's side has two games in hand over the Midlands club. With Garnacho back in partial training, United fans will be hopeful that the teenager can make a significant contribution in the team's quest for silverware this season
