Dr. Henry Kwabena Kokofu, executive director of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), has urged the National Chief Imam to take the helm of the campaign for ethical and clean environmental practices in the nation.
Dr. Kwabena Kokofu pointed out that the nation is facing a number of environmental issues as a result of internal and external forces that endanger its citizens' lives.
He believed that the engagement of civil society organizations, particularly the esteemed Office of the National Chief Imam, would greatly aid in shaping Ghanaians' minds and attitudes to become ecologically sensitive.
When he led a delegation of agency directors to pay a courtesy call on the National Chief Imam last Friday, the EPA Executive Director made the appeal.
He stated that the country is concerned about environmental degradation brought on by human activity, and he added that while the government is making every effort to address these issues, doing so would require the expressed support and commitment of all stakeholders, including the religious community.
In the meantime, the country's National Chief Imam declared his support for the campaign for environmental security.
The National Chief Imam cited passages from the Holy Qur'an where Allah, The Almighty, emphasizes the variety of purposes behind creating man and commands him to be the Keeper of others.
He said that since our whole survival depends on safe settings, it is everyone's duty as Ghanaians to make sure that they are.
The National Chief Imam made the following statement through his spokesperson, Sheikh Aremeyaw Shaibu: "I am appealing to every Ghanaian to appreciate the value of the environment; that is where we all survive." We collectively have an obligation to keep our environments free of all harmful toxins that influence our health.
While this was going on, the EPA Executive Director and his staff generously donated 100 bags of rice, 100 cans of fish, and 100 cans of cooking oil.
