The government has been urged by workers in the Upper West Region to guarantee that the revision of the Labour Law is finished and put into effect by the end of this year.

The present state, they claimed, permitted companies to recruit and fire employees based only on their whims and fancies.

Godwin Gariba, the Upper West Regional Secretary of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), claimed that, as a result, the TUC has lost more than 1,000 employees over the years while speaking to the laborers during the 2023 May Day celebration in Nandom.

In addition, Mr. Gariba bemoaned the example of a Chinese corporation that fired employees "without just cause" and subjected them to a variety of inhumane practices.

He also demanded that all workers' income plans be reviewed on a general basis.

"We will no longer tolerate the situation where Article 71 beneficiaries enjoy a huge benefit while ordinary workers continue to receive meager salaries that will not enable them to support their families," he said.

The Regional Coordinating Council was praised for bringing the celebration to the region by Naa Prof. Edmund Nminyem Delle Chiir VIII, the Paramount Chief of the Nandom Traditional Council, who led the workers in a three-kilometer march before the durbar.

In order to ameliorate the plight of employees, Naa Prof. Delle Chiir pleaded with the Regional Minister, Hafiz Bin Salih, to convey the message to the government.

Dr. Bin Salih assured the audience that the government was dedicated to seeing to the welfare of its employees in a speech that was delivered by Regional Coordinating Director Peter Maala.

According to the minister, the recent reduction in government perks was proof that the administration was open to public input.

He urged employees to show their appreciation for the government's generosity by exerting more effort to raise productivity.

The ceremony celebrated outstanding employees for their contributions.

A television and an award shield were given to each of the 11 outstanding employees.
