The National Democratic Congress (NDC) will hold the party's internal elections to choose its presidential and legislative candidates on Saturday, May 13, 2023.
The Daily Graphic would publish a profile of each of the three candidates running for president in the run-up to the elections.
They are Dr Kwabena Duffuor, a former minister of finance; Kojo Bonsu, a former chief executive of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly; and former president John Dramani Mahama.
We start with Mr Bonsu's profile.
Bonsu, Kojo
He believes he has what it takes to transform Ghana's political landscape and reposition the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to win the 2024 general election.
Kojo Bonsu claimed that his choice to seek the highest position in the nation was not "a sudden whim," but rather a vocation that was profoundly ingrained in his background and experience as a businessman, social democrat, and public servant.
However, his ability to overcome a significant obstacle on May 13, 2023, when he competes with his former boss, John Dramani Mahama, and former Finance Minister, Kwabena Duffuor, in an internal election to choose one of them to lead the party, will determine whether or not he realizes his dream of "climbing" to the highest office.
The enormously built Kojo Bonsu, who was born in Kumasi in 1960 to the Offinsohemaa, Nana Adwoa Pokua, and Mr Kojo Mensa-Bonsu, a leader of the Worker's Brigade in Sekyere-Dumasi, is relying on his experiences. To rebrand the party he so dearly loved, he used his skills in several disciplines, like football administration, leadership, and business.
In fact, he discovered in his formative years that athletics provided the ideal outlet for his anxieties and concerns. He was a hockey and football prodigy who subsequently learned he had leadership and management skills.
As fate would have it, in 1992 he advanced to the position of team manager for the senior male national football team, the Black Stars, serving during the most prosperous times for the squad for six years.
Through his connections with some prestigious business organizations, Kojo Bonsu was able to become the Adidas International representative for West Africa in 1994, giving him the chance to take the reins of the football administration.
Moving up to the pinnacle of football administration, Mr Bonsu was one of four candidates who ran for president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) in 2005 but lost to Kwesi Nyantakyi. He has previously served as an executive member of Kumasi Asante Kotoko and a director of Real Tamale United.
