Following a program of enlightenment for them, 70 tricycle riders—known locally as pragya—from seven districts in the Central area vowed to assist in the promotion of awareness of sexual and gender-based concerns as well as reproductive health issues.

Kweku Sam, the chairman of the Riders Union, stated that the choice was made with the members' health and wellbeing in mind.

The riders made the commitment during a sensitization training held by the National Youth Authority on Thursday with assistance from the Central Regional Coordinating Council and the United Nations Population Fund.

The Assin South, Ekumfi, Ajumako Enyan Essiam, Komenda Edina Eguafo Abrem, Upper Denkyira West, Twifo Hemang Lower Denkyira, and Cape Coast districts were among the districts from which they were selected.

Culprits

The trike riders have been accused by many forums on adolescent pregnancy in the Central area.  as one set of individuals using underage girls as sexual objects.

Topics covered by the workshop organizers included domestic abuse, teen pregnancy and its implications, abortion, and sexually transmitted illnesses.

Francis Ackah, a different rider, claimed that many riders were leading dangerous lives because they were unaware of the risks.

He said, "Now that we've been educated, we've been designated ambassadors to educate the rest."

Because they were unaware of the risks, he suggested that some of them were engaging in dangerous sexual behaviors.

He urged the members to participate in more of these forums in order to encourage healthy sexual behaviors among the motorcyclists.

Education in SRH is crucial.

In his remarks, the Central Regional Director of the NYA, Archibald Donkoh, stated that sexual and reproductive health remained a crucial component of our society.

It frequently does not receive the priority and attention it merits.

According to him, sexual education ought to be a fundamental right for young people because it can help them make informed decisions about their health and well-being. He added that the workshop's emphasis on sexual and reproductive education was essential for developing a culture that nurtures children and supports their potential.
