Dr. Sulemana Abudulai, the Board Chairman of the Northern Development Authority (NDA), has asked the government to strengthen its partnerships with development organizations in order to assess all current donor-funded initiatives and flagship programs throughout the nation, particularly in the north.
He said it would allow the country to pinpoint the reasons why some actions had failed to have the desired effect over time and develop tactics that would be more advantageous to the populace.
Dr. Abudulai made this statement yesterday in Accra during a workshop for development partners working on the $150 million Ghana Gulf of Guinea Northern Regions Social Cohesion (SOCO) project, which will be launched in November 2022.
The purpose of the event, which was dubbed "The Deep Dive Workshop," was to strengthen cooperation between the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralization, and Rural Development (MLGDRD) and development partners in the execution of certain initiatives in northern Ghana for better effect.
Local economic growth, digital innovation, local government, and social cohesion were some of the thematic themes covered.
MLGDRD, the National Youth Authority, the National Development Planning Commission, the Ghana Enterprise Agency, the National Peace Council, STAR Ghana, and US Agency for International Development (USAID) representatives were among the participants.
The World Bank and the MLGDRD worked together to organize the workshop.
Concerns
Concern was also voiced by the board chairman over a lack of coordination, the building of a robust database, and a single platform.
between the government and development partners to exchange knowledge and suggestions for interventions in the nation.
He said that in order for the different development initiatives and flagship programs to have an impact on the people, there were some holes that had been created by the current scenario that needed to be addressed.
A robust database, for instance, would make it possible to examine the effects of projects like the One Village, One Dam policy on vegetable output, according to Dr. Abudulai.
Do we know the locations of some of these dams and whether they have an effect on the neighborhood?
He asked whether there was anything that could be done to increase the dams' effectiveness.
