Ruth Awintanga, a young chicken farmer from Ghana, was named the winner of the 2018 Miss Agriculture Ghana Food Festival.
Miss Awintanga, a student at the University of Media, Arts, and Culture (UNIMAC) and a native of the Upper East Region, triumphed over four other contestants to win the pageant that was created to inspire and encourage more women to enter the agribusiness industry by highlighting their successes.
The event, which has "Youth and women's participation in agribusiness: Telling our story, then and now" as its topic, was organized by Women in Agribusiness Ghana under the sponsorship of the 2022 National Best Farmer.
Agricultural Miss
Five finalists battled it out for the title and the chance to work on a year-long initiative to encourage women and young people to participate in agriculture.
Francisca Aggrey, a chicken farmer; Dora Anterkyi, a pig farmer; Najat Hamid Mohammed; Eunice Ohene, a food processor; and Miss Awintanga, the ultimate winner, were the competitors.
Each participant had a chance to persuade the judges as to why she or he should be named Miss Agriculture by doing imaginative demonstrations, dressing in agricultural attire, showcasing their talents, and presenting their projects.
Akosua Agyapong, a musician and TV personality, served as the National Commission on Culture's Director in Charge of Policy, Research, Monitoring, and Evaluation. Fio Richardson Commey and Georgina Opoku, better known as Asor, the organization's cultural ambassador, also served.
The judges evaluated, examined, and counseled the competitors on how they might most effectively market their agribusinesses and agriculture as a whole across the nation.
The always vivacious Akosua Agyapong provided an electrifying performance of her song "Gye Wani" as well as her well-known robotic dance as part of the event's entertainment.
Following their performances, Miss Anterkyi was named the most influential contestant, Miss Mohammed the most inventive queen, Miss Aggrey earned the Best Catwalk award, and Miss Awintanga was named the most eloquent contender.
