After abandoning their pursuit of Jude Bellingham, the Reds have turned their attention to Alexis MacAllister.
The manager of Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp, is adamant that the team will not be held hostage over transfer objectives and that they are not willing to pay exorbitant fees.
Since Borussia Dortmund is expected to demand a cost of roughly £130 million for their top choice Jude Bellingham, the club has already withdrawn from the competition.
In order to avoid spending huge sums of money on a headline signing, it was decided to spread their limited resources out and put Brighton's Alexis Mac Allister near the top of their list of possibilities.
Due to Liverpool's midfield problems, selling clubs may increase their asking prices because they are aware of the rival's desire to buy players and, more particularly, to do so early in the summer.
But Klopp insisted that they were not willing to overpay and that they have a list of targets that would provide the team choices in the event that talks ran into trouble.
"So we are unable to purchase the player. We cannot do that if they are pricey, he replied.
"I have a good feeling that we'll get the players we want and the people who can help. I have some faith in that.
"You won't know for sure until they're signed, but it's not unusual for some clubs to try raising prices," the speaker said.
"Let me put it this way: When you choose a position, you have more than one option. Thus, they must all be excellent.
"You might have a favorite, but we can't go with it if the other club doesn't want to sell or if someone else would pay the asking price.
"However, we frequently got the players we desired. The only question is whether we can afford them after they arrive.
With five straight victories, Liverpool has improved on a season that saw them vacillate between eighth and tenth for much of the year. They are now only four points behind fourth-placed Manchester United and have a remote chance of finishing in the top four due to their rivals' fewer games played.
