Much of Liverpool's focus this summer will be on securing new midfield options, but that may not be the only area Jrgen Klopp is targeting for signings.
Only Liverpool know what they have planned for the summer transfer window, despite all the speculation circulating.
While the majority of rumors revolve around midfield, it's not the only area on the list mentioned. Liverpool's defense is also debating whether they need reinforcements when this summer's transfer window opens.
Of course, the midfielder caught the eye, and rightfully so. With the news that James Milner is about to leave the club to join Brighton when his contract expires, the need for reinforcements for Liverpool's midfield is even greater.
However, despite this demand, rumors continue to emerge that Liverpool are looking to strengthen the centre-back. The latest player linked to a move to Anfield is Sporting CP defender Gonalo Incio.
According to French newspaper Le Parisien, Liverpool are the 'most pressing club' trying to sign Incio this summer. It is reported that the Red Devils have started negotiations to try to reach an agreement for the 21-year-old. This report follows an earlier article in O Jogo, which claimed that Manchester United and Newcastle were, among others, interested in Incio. It is reported that the two clubs have been in contact with Incio's agent, Miguel Pinho, but have yet to officially speak with Sporting about a deal. Other reports say Sporting values ??Incio at around $51m (40m/45m).
The Portugal international is not the only defender linked with Liverpool in recent weeks. Benfica's Antnio Silva, Torino's Perr Schuurs, RB Leipzig's Joko Gvardiol and Ajax's Jurrin Timber are just a few of the names that have popped up in Liverpool rumors in recent months. Although at this stage Liverpool are even tracking any of these players is pure speculation, let alone bringing them back to the club, it cannot be coincidental that there are so many consequences. protection is linked at the same time.
The old adage says that there is no smoke without fire, and that applies here. There is probably no speculation that Liverpool could make a move for a new centre-back without rumors actually being true.
If so, it begs the question of what Liverpool have planned for the summer. The club have Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konat, Joe Gomez, Jol Matip and Nat Phillips at the senior centre-back, but could that change? Van Dijk has a contract with Liverpool until 2025 and is not going anywhere this summer. The same goes for Konate, who is nearing the end of his second season at Anfield and is seen as the future of the Red Devils defense.
