Dr. Kwabena Duffour Jr. has been invited to talk to his father about his conduct leading up to the National Democratic Congress presidential primaries by a senior lecturer at the University of Ghana's Political Science Department.
Dr. Kwabena Duffour, a former finance minister, made several moves that, according to Prof. Ransford Gyampo, may have negatively impacted his son, Dr. Kwabenya Duffour Jr.'s political future.
Due to this, the outspoken lecturer has recommended that Dr. Duffour Jr., who is running for the Sekyere Afram Plains in the NDC's parliamentary primary, speak with his father right now.
According to him, if his father does not scale back his efforts towards the party before the primaries, his political career might suffer a serious loss.
"Kwabena Dufuor Jr. must firmly and quickly advise Kwabena Dufuor not to be coerced or sponsored into causing such needless mayhem in order to undermine Kwabena Dufuor Jr.'s political career in the NDC.
"A decent parent should work to improve his son's future," he claimed in a Facebook post on Wednesday.
In response to what he claims are certain irregularities his team has found in the party's voter registration to be utilized for the exercise, Dr. Kwabena Duffour, a flagbearer candidate, has launched a lawsuit against the party.
Dr. Duffour claimed in a petition submitted to the Accra High Court that the party had violated party regulations by failing to submit the necessary picture album register five weeks before the elections.
He said that rather than in March, when they had requested one, a partial picture album record was delivered to his team on May 4, only days before the polls.
"The Plaintiff adds that, to their utmost surprise, upon verification, it was found that the number of constituencies on the hard drive given to his representatives was in fact 220 in number as opposed to the alleged number of 228 constituencies indicated by the Defendant," he said.
"The Plaintiff also argues that the Photo Album Register is incorrect and untrustworthy for a free, fair, and credible election due to fundamental mistakes and irregularities discovered during an initial assessment of the aforementioned 220 constituencies on the hard drive provided to his representatives by the 2nd Defendant."
Dr. Duffour said that the party had ignored his plea to delay the elections until a complete picture album registration was obtained.
He is requesting an interlocutory order from the court to prevent the May 13 elections from being held by the party and those who have been sued, including the General Secretary, Election Director, co-candidates John Mahama and Kojo Bonsu, and the Electoral Commission.
If not prevented, this and other statements made by Prof. Gyampo may cost Dr. Duffour Jr. his political riches.
