According to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, raw bauxite and iron ore will soon no longer be exported from Ghana.

President Akufo-Addo remarked, "We should not do with these minerals [bauxite and iron ore] what we have done with our gold resources over the years," in reference to how many minerals extracted in Ghana are exported in their unprocessed, raw form.

On May 11, 2023, in Accra, Ghana, Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL), in collaboration with the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, hosted the launch of a stakeholder conversation on natural resource management.

According to President Akufo-Addo, all relevant laws and policy papers regarding the exploitation, utilization, and handling of essential minerals

Retaining the minerals value chain, ensuring stricter enforcement of laws to tackle illegal activities in the mining and forest sectors, and eliminating barriers to effective land administration are at the center stage as policymakers and stakeholders gather in Accra today for the maiden dialogue on natural resource management.

Opening the discussion, President Akufo-Addo stated that the policy document on the exploitation, utilization, and management of critical minerals in Ghana that the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources is currently finalizing will be presented to Cabinet for "consideration in the next few weeks."

I can tell you that we will take all necessary steps to guarantee that the mining and use of these green minerals are done not just in a sustainable manner but also in a way that assures maximum benefit to the people of Ghana, as well as in an ecologically friendly manner, the President stated.

We will never give up on this, he continued.

In fact, after five years of these laws' enactment, the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources is given the authority to issue regulations to ensure that no bauxite or iron ore in their raw state is exported outside of the country.

This authority is granted by Sections 28 of the Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation (GIADEC) law and Section 30 of the Ghana Integrated Iron and Steel Development Corporation (GIISDEC) law.
