Samuel Abu Jinapor, the minister of lands and natural resources, has thanked President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for taking the initiative to manage and make use of Ghana's natural resources.
The Minister of Natural Resources spoke at the Natural Resources Dialogue today in Accra and mentioned some of the steps taken by the government to ensure the efficient management of natural resources, including increasing local participation and content in the mining industry, expanding the items on the Local Procurement List of goods and services that are only available to Ghanaians, and collaborating with the Ghana Chamber of Mines and the Securities and Exchange Commission to ensure large-scale mining.
The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources expressed gratitude to H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the President of the Republic, for his exceptional leadership in the use and management of the nation's natural resources.
In the next two years, three new, sizable mining operations—Newmont Ahafo North in the Ahafo Region, Azumah Resources in the Upper West Region, and Cardinal Namdini in the Upper East Region—are scheduled to begin operations. These operations will have a significant economic impact on the nation.
Mr. Jinapor also said that a technical committee was putting the finishing touches on a policy statement for the Cabinet's consideration on the exploration, administration, and utilization of the nation's green minerals, including lithium.
The objective, according to him, was to keep the value chain for these and other minerals within the nation.
According to the Minister, between 2017 and 2022, the government helped develop almost 690,000 hectares of forest through the Green Ghana Project and the Ghana Forest Plantation Strategy, respectively.
The debate, according to Minister Jinapor, was intended to examine how to manage and utilize the nation's natural resources in a sustainable manner.
The first day of the Natural Resources Stakeholder Dialogue concluded with a call for cooperation among all stakeholders in Ghana's natural resource management and use for the benefit of everyone.
