Matildas superstar Sam Kerr has revealed she almost turned down the opportunity to lead Australia's delegation at King Charles' coronation because she was worried it would clash with her commitments with Chelsea.
Kerr, 29, also said carrying Australia's flag after she was handpicked by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese was an 'amazing honor.'
Incredibly, just over 24 hours after seeing the King crowned, she was on the scoresheet for the Blues against Everton.
'I got offered the opportunity to be a part of it about a month ago while I was in an international camp,' Kerr said ahead of Chelsea's FA Cup final clash with Arsenal.
'I originally thought the Everton game was on the same day, so I thought it was not doable, but Emma [Hayes, Chelsea's manager] and the club were kind enough to let me attend.
Kerr added that being the flag bearer at such a prestigious world event is 'something I'll probably tell my kids about in 10 to 15 years'.
It comes as the Matildas captain prepares to be the face of the women's World Cup, to be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand on July 20.
But before she leads out her nation, she will be chasing more silverware with Chelsea as they push for the Women's Super League title and the FA Cup against archrivals Manchester United.
The FA Cup final is this Sunday at Wembley, and the Aussie can't wait to run out in front of a sell-out crowd of 90,000 fans.
'I love playing at Wembley. It's probably my favorite stadium to play at in the world, just based on the fact that whenever you go there, it's a big game,' Kerr told Fairfax.
'This team [Chelsea] always steps up when there's a big occasion, so it's going to be amazing. My family's coming over for it, so it's going to be very exciting.
'The girls were very quick to tell me that if you want to win one trophy in England, it's the FA Cup. So it's very important to us.'
