John Dramani Mahama, the nominee for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flag, has encouraged party members to stick together and focus on the big goal of winning the 2024 elections and taking back power.

The party's presidential and parliamentary primaries are now done, he said, and it is time to move past the contests and differences and maintain their focus on winning the next election.

He was elected to represent the opposition party in the next general election by a landslide last Saturday.

After being crowned the victor of the presidential primary elections, Mr. Mahama addressed the party and all of its followers in a brief message uploaded on his Facebook page yesterday: "Our combined eyes are firmly fixed on the highest goal of guiding Ghana out of the pit we find it in."

After former Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, withdrew from the race last Friday evening, the race for president was reduced to a two-man race between Mr. Mahama and former Chief Executive of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Kojo Bonsu, at the eleventh hour.

Delegates, however, showed up in large numbers to cast their votes in the elections under the Electoral Commission's (EC) supervision; therefore, that had no impact on the outcome of the election.

In the end, Mr. Bonsu received 297,603 votes, or 98.9 percent of the vote, whereas the former president Mahama received an overwhelming 297,603 votes.

In the early hours of Tuesday, Dr. Serebour Quaicoe, Director of Electoral Service at the Electoral Commission (EC), announced the election's results at the party headquarters in Accra. He stated that 305,437 legal votes were cast, while 4,653 ballots were rejected.

His Excellency John Dramani Mahama is hereby formally proclaimed to have been validly elected with 98.9% of the vote, as I duly announce on behalf of the Chairperson of the EC.

Some of the party members who had gathered at the party headquarters to await the results of the election applauded this.

The center for the final collation of the presidential primary was the party's headquarters.
