John Dramani Mahama, the candidate for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has reaffirmed his commitment to bringing stability and inclusive prosperity back to the economy if elected in the general election of 2024.
He declared that he would launch vigorous interventions to revitalize all sectors of the economy, given his expertise as a previous president in the government of the nation.
Prioritizing local involvement in the banking, finance, telecommunications, mining, oil and gas, agricultural, manufacturing, and construction sectors, he added, would be crucial in creating jobs for the young.
In order to invest in the productive areas of the economy and generate employment, the incoming NDC administration, according to him, would actively seek out credible and serious investors from the private sector.
According to him, this would place a significant emphasis on making Ghanaians the owners of their microbusinesses and would emphasize agriculture and agribusiness.
acknowledgment speech
In Tamale yesterday, Mr. Mahama gave a speech in which he accepted the NDC's election as its flag bearer.
The gathering included party members from the bottom up, including the national executive, members of parliament, past appointees, sympathizers, and supporters of the party. It also included members of the Council of Elders.
Former President Mahama's running mate for 2020, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang, as well as his wife, Lordina Mahama, the National Chairman of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, and the party's former National Chairman, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, were among the dignitaries who attended the event.
It was a chaotic scene in the multipurpose hall of the University for Development Studies (UDS), which was packed to capacity with party sympathizers and supporters. Some of them carried cards with messages like "It's time and it's JM's time," "It's time to rescue the country from NPP," and "NDC will restore hope in Ghana," among others.
dealing with corruption
In addition to the economic front, the former president Mahama stated, "We will also be very thick on governance because transparent and accountable governance at all levels remains a guaranteed fuel that fires the socio-economic transformation of successful nations."
He stated that in order to enhance political governance, combat corruption, and guarantee that human rights are respected, his administration would create a Governance Advisory Council. He continued by saying that the council will have members from civil society groups, traditional leaders, religious leaders, and common Ghanaians.
"With debilitating debt and an ineffective and wasteful administration, our country is still at a crossroads. We cannot stay on this course.
As a leader, it is a betrayal of the people to continue doing things the same way when the consequences make the people less wealthy.
"I pledge to lead a successful administration with no more than 60 ministers.
These ministers, along with other government appointees, will not be eligible for ex gratia payments following their terms in office since they have agreed to that obligation even before the required constitutional adjustments, which may include a review of the contentious Article 71, are made, he said.
triumphant victory
Assuring them that he would run his administration with an open door policy in the long run for the sake of the party and the nation, Mr. Mahama thanked the delegates for their trust in him to lead the party in the next general election.
This triumph isn't about me, John Dramani Mahama; it's about our people and building a country that enables our inhabitants to live good, honorable lives.
The goal is to increase access to healthcare so that our moms and sisters can fulfill their biological obligation of procreation without dying.
It concerns the young youngsters whose bright future is destroyed by a perilous boat voyage made in quest of an education, the man stated.
