Reputable Ghanaian playwright Latif Abubakar has once again collaborated with the Spanish Embassy on the translation of Pedro Calderon de la Barca's play "Life is a Dream," which first appeared in Spain.

The two collaborated on the adaptation of Miguel Delibes' "Five Hours with Mario" last year, which was well received by the community.

The 1635 creation "Life is a Dream" was played on practically all European stages, but not in Africa.

It is anticipated to have an influence not only in Ghana and Spain but also all over the world after being transformed into a Ghanaian and Afrocentric stage drama.

Graphic Newsplus, Joy Entertainment Television, M&C Group, and the Spain-Ghana Chamber of Commerce are some of the additional partners.

Launch

The play was among the top 40 plays of all time worldwide," Mr. Abubakar said at the play's debut in Accra yesterday. He also said it was an honor to create the play for the nation.

He said that the fight between free choice and fate, as well as regaining one's honor, were important themes of the drama, which was concentrated on morality, honor, and retribution.

Other themes, according to him, included the struggle between parent and son and fantasies and realities.

According to Mr. Abubakar, who is also the CEO of Globe Productions, the play "explored the deepest mysteries of human experience and taught us that the world of our senses is merely a shadow; the only reality is discovered in the eternal and unseen."

It also looks at how to become aware of reality and gain self-knowledge in order to escape from life's chaos.

The drama will be presented on May 27 and 28, 2023, at 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., respectively, at the Accra International Conference Centre.

"Tickets will cost GH100 before May 19, 2023, and GH150 after May 19, 2023, at Joy FM, Baatsona Total, and Airport Shell.

To purchase tickets, people can also use the short code *447*1092#, Mr. Abubakar continued.

Afrocentric Theatre

He gave a summary of the play, stating that it was first set in a fictitious version of the country of Poland and that it chronicles the tale of King Basilio, who imprisons his son Segismundo in a tower from the moment of his birth because he has grounds to worry based on his astrological studies that the youngster would turn out to be a dictator and a rebel against his rule.

Gonjaland served as the location for the play's afrocentric adaptation.

"You will hear King Basilio referred to as King Abdallah and Segismundo referred to as Tijani.

The author stated, "We think the African version will be the greatest of all the performances presented around Europe.

For making the adaptation feasible, he praised the Spanish Embassy, collaborators, and actors and crew.
