The National Teaching Council (NTC) has started issuing teaching licenses across the country to newly certified educators and educators who were excused from the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE).

19,484 instructors would get licenses as a result of the exercise, which began on May 15 and ended on June 14, 2023.

Centers According to Dr. Christian Addai-Poku, Registrar of the NTC, who announced this last Monday in Accra, centers have been established throughout the regions so that teachers may acquire their licenses on time.

He claimed that, with 5,447 teachers, the Greater Accra Region had the most and, with 189, the Savanna Region had the fewest.

Dr. Addai-Poku was optimistic that the distribution would go smoothly thanks to the procedures put in place.  To guarantee a seamless procedure, he urged all parties involved to work together with the team members assigned to the project.

To guarantee a successful exercise, the Registrar pleaded with all regional, municipal, metropolitan, and district directors of education to actively monitor the procedure.

In order to improve effective teaching and learning, Dr. Addai-Poku stated that the NTC would continue to implement policies and measures to ensure that the appropriate initiatives and procedures were put in place. These measures would ensure that teachers worked with the appropriate qualifications, complied with necessary standards, and upheld professionalism.

The Education Regulatory Bodies Act, 2020 (Act 1023), gave the NTC, a department of the Ministry of Education, the responsibility of fostering teacher professionalism in Ghana.

The primary responsibilities of the NTC include licensing and registering teachers, maintaining an accurate database of instructors, and developing and reevaluating professional standards and a code of ethics on a regular basis.

It also provides a framework for teachers' continuous professional development (CPD). It also administers the Teacher Licensure Examination.

Objective

The council's mission is to govern the nation's teaching profession.

By establishing standards at all levels of the educational system through teacher licensure, the objective is to encourage excellence and professionalism among educators.

Additionally, it involves directing the whole process of changing how education is delivered, promoting continued professional development, maintaining discipline, and monitoring and supervising programs for teacher education.

The goal is to provide guidelines for teacher preparation and practice while fostering high-caliber teaching and learning.

In order to accomplish its goals, the NTC provides advice to the Minister of Education on a variety of topics, including the professional standing and position of teachers, as well as their employment, education, and growth.
