The electoral management body is properly equipped to carry out the polls as required, the Electoral Commission (EC) has told all participants in the approaching Kumawu by-election in the Ashanti Region.
In an interview last Wednesday (May 17), Benjamin Bano-Bioh, the Ashanti Regional Director of the EC, emphasized that all of the election-related materials had been made available, with the exception of some ballots, which were being printed and would be ready today (Friday, May 19, 2023).

According to Mr. Bano-Bioh, the EC had certain returning officers participate in training over the previous two days in order to get them ready for the election.
The two-day training program's beneficiaries, he added, will also train certain important participants, such as presiding officers, name reference list officers, and ballot issuers.
For this election, we have the necessary resources and preparation. Everything is in place, he said, adding that the EC was prepared to hold a free and fair election to fulfill the will of the people.
Mr. Bano-Bioh claimed that all political parties and candidates had to do was make sure that their representatives at the polling places and the centers for the collation of results were sufficiently informed to understand the process and the results.

"As for the police, we are in contact with them constantly. They have received a list from us with the whereabouts of all 75 voting places. Additionally, we have highlighted potential hotspots, according to Bano-Bioh.
Voting Notice
There were four candidates running in the by-election, according to the Notice of Poll released by the Electoral Commission prior to the exercise on May 23.
On the ballot, Ernest Yaw Anim of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is listed as the top contender. Kwasi Amankwa of the National Democratic Congress is listed in second place, while two independent candidates with the same name are listed in third and fourth place, respectively.
Recall that following the passing of Philip Basoah, the NPP MP for the Kumawu Constituency, Parliament informed the EC of the necessity to hold a by-election before sine die adjourning for the Easter vacations.
53-year-old Mr. Basoah served in the Fourth Republic's Seventh and Eighth Parliaments.
