The Army Peace Operations Training School (APOTS), the first in West Africa to be accredited by the UN to train people for peace support operations, is located near Bundase in the Greater Accra Region.

After being evaluated by a senior officer from the UN Integrated Training Service, who looked at the school's training content and programs, infrastructure, instructors, and materials used to teach staff, among other things, the recognition was granted.

Therefore, the recognition certificate attests to APOTS' proficiency in comparison to any other UN-accredited institution worldwide.

APOTS

Major-General Thomas Oppong-Peprah, the Chief of the Army Staff, founded APOTS in June 2021 at the Army Battle Training Camp in Bundase to fill the structured training vacuum noted at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Conference.

Junior-level tactical instruction is provided by the Training Center (KAIPTC).

Only operational-level training is provided by KAIPTC to mid-level commanders, staff, and advisers.

Therefore, the purpose of APOTS is to train the Ghana Army's units and soldiers deployed on international PSOs as well as carry out associated operations involving allied and foreign forces.

Maj. Gen. Oppong-Peprah went on to say that the accreditation was yet another success for the Ghana Army in its pursuit of effective PSO involvement.

According to him, the certification was obtained in the quickest amount of time in the UN training recognition process's history.

"APOTS has developed into an illustrious organization that will soon begin training partnerships with sister nations in the sub-region.

The Chief of the Army Staff said, "It will also conduct short-duration tactical courses in the areas of PSO."

He said that APOTS will conduct PSO research and provide reference materials, which would pave the way for the formation of a PSO library in the nation.

A water purification facility, a refurbished regimental aid post (RAP), and a social room with 900 seats were eventually dedicated by Maj. Gen. Oppong-Peprah for the school.

Facilities

Colonel Clement Dingane, the commander of APOTS, further noted that the institution now has a cutting-edge multipurpose auditorium, housing units, and lecture rooms, among other amenities.

The Chief of the Army Staff, businesses, and individuals, including commanding officers and the battalions they led during training in the school

Brigadier General Stephen Woseadzikpo Kweku Parbey, the commander of the Army Training Command, stated that until June 2021, there was no permanent and organized body at the Battle Training Camp in Bundase to coordinate, impart instruction, and assess training.

He expressed gratitude to business entities, people, and training partners from the US for their varied contributions.
