Today is the funeral for Philip Atta Basoah, a former New Patriotic Party (NPP) lawmaker from the Kumawu district who passed away on March 13, 2023.

High-level representatives from the majority and minority parties in the House of Representatives are expected to attend the burial in Kumawu, in the Ashanti Region, to pay their respects to their former colleague who passed away unexpectedly. A day after his passing, he was among three MPs who were not present for a vote that was essential for confirming President Akufo-Addo's ministry picks.

And on Sunday, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is anticipated to join a group of Jubilee House supporters and party members to celebrate the occasion and rally support for Ernest Yaw Anim, the NPP candidate.

Mr. Anim, a 38-year-old chartered accountant, defeated Obaapa Ama Serwah, the sole female candidate in the five-man field, in the NPP primary on Sunday, April 23, by garnering 195 votes.

The Kumawu by-election will also include Kwaku Duah, a former NPP member who switched to the independent party during the most recent parliamentary election in Kumawu.
