The midfielder's inability to travel with England at the Under-20 World Cup is due to Chelsea.
Frank Lampard justified Chelsea's decision to deny Carney Chukwuemeka's request to travel to Argentina with the England Under-20 team.
Two club members—including the 19-year-old—have been left off manager Ian Foster's roster. Midfielder Lewis Hall has also been told he must stay for the rest of the season.
Chukwuemeka has started just twice since December and hasn't been in the matchday squad for any of the last eight games, but Hall started as Chelsea drew with Nottingham Forest last weekend, and Lampard has said he'll play a part in his team's next three games.
Lampard explained that the club decided to keep the former Aston Villa player, who joined Stamford Bridge in a £20 million deal last summer, accessible for the rest of the campaign due to injuries.
He plays for Chelsea, and we have injuries there, stated Lampard. "The issue with Carney is that this season he hasn't been able to receive as many minutes despite joining a club, which was a major move for him. He's adjusting to a new club.
"I'm hoping he gets a chance in these three games. He's also our player, and even if we've lost players, we need him to stay.
If the team advances to the next round, there's a chance he could join up at the end of the season. In a perfect situation, that might be the best of both worlds.
But we had to decide since he is our player. Carney wanted to leave, but he was forced to stay due to what had occurred.
On Sunday, Chelsea will play freshly crowned Premier League winners Manchester City in what will be Pep Guardiola's team's first game following their successful defense of their two previous titles.
Frank Lampard justifies the selection of Carney Chukwuemeka as "our player."
