John Dramani Mahama, the leader of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), attended the Ringway Gospel Centre Assemblies of God Church yesterday to praise God for his mercies and protection, which allowed him to win re-election as the head of his party.

His family, which included brothers, nephews, and nieces, as well as influential partygoers, classmates from his alma mater, and other acquaintances, joined him.

Former President Mahama, his wife, and the group attended the almost two-hour ceremony, which had a Thanksgiving theme, while dressed entirely in white.

The Praise and Worship team, led by Piesie Esther, ministered songs including "Yeredi nkunim" by the Tagoe Sisters, "Okura Yenmu se okoree" by Stella Seals, "Ene m'anya anigye (ayeyi nwom)" by the Daughters of Glorious Jesus, and other well-known Thanksgiving songs, while the youth choir Anointed Jewels also sang the Nigerian song "Obinasom," which translates to "my heart is joyful."

Following the sermon, the congregation was led in prayer for the outgoing president who would be leading the NDC in the general election of 2024 by the General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God, Rev. Dr. Steven Yenusom Wengam, who had joined the service in the middle.

The General Superintendent recalled how the former President had frequently stopped by the church to express gratitude to God in 2012, when he first took office, as well as in 2016 and 2020, when he failed to win reelection.

They have demonstrated that one should give thanks to God at all times.

They are a part of what they are doing right now, he added.

The audience and the entourage were urged to cherish thankfulness by the resident pastor, Rev. Benjamin Tettey, in his sermon on the "Value of Thanksgiving," which drew from a number of texts, including the books of Samuel and Psalms.

He responded, "Thanksgiving exalts God and always brings about the Lord renewing his mercies on us every morning.

According to Rev. Tettey, offering thanks "connects the thanksgiver to the good things of the Lord." He also said that the Lord continues to deliver his people as a result of this practice.

"Your Excellency, you should bring God into all that you do," he said, encouraging former President Mahama, his family, and his supporters to continue to express gratitude at all times and in all circumstances.
