On April 25–26, 2023, the International Concrete Conference & Exhibition (ICCX), which attracted more than 30 firms from 11 nations, was hosted for the first time in West Africa (Ghana).
Over 500 delegates attended the two-day conference at the Grand Arena in Accra, which was arranged by ad-media GmbH in association with the Delegation of German Business and Commerce in Ghana. Participants learned more about the concrete business.
Leading industry firms, including MC-Bauchemie Ghana Limited, Sika Chemicals Ghana Limited, Saint-Gobain West Africa, and Ghacem Limited, supported the event, which featured speakers from Europe, the United States of America, and Africa.
Attendees gained knowledge about cutting-edge concrete technology, manufacturing techniques, and industry networking opportunities.
Sivine Jansen, the Deputy Head of Mission of the German Embassy in Ghana, gave a speech at the conference's beginning and stated that it was wonderful to have such a large amount of interest and companies in attendance.
She claimed that despite the challenging environment, German businesses that have set up shop there were expanding consistently but slowly.
They have a solid, slow-growing business with a wide range of market prospects that they may take advantage of to develop and grow.
The interactions we have had with them so far have been quite positive.
"As a result, we urge businesses to take a chance and enter the market.
It's extremely fascinating to observe that in West Africa, we have a variety of firms involved in the production of concrete.
We have the fastest population increase, and we anticipate that 5% of the global population will come from West Africa.
"This offers the concrete market tremendous opportunity for the growth of infrastructure and real estate. She said people frequently spend more on real estate during difficult economic times, which also presents prospects for the concrete industry.
Amenable to concepts
Francis Asenso-Boakye, the minister of works and housing who also spoke at the conference, expressed his nation's excitement at hosting the ICCX as the first nation in West Africa.
He asserted that Ghana was receptive to innovative concepts, cutting-edge technology, and joint venture investments in the concrete sector.
He stated that one of Ghana's top concerns in its pursuit of economic development and change was the creation of sustainable infrastructure.
He claimed that the expansion of the infrastructure sector was integrally linked to the economic growth and development of both Ghana and Africa.
He said that this resulted in a rise in the demand for cement, concrete, and other building supplies.
According to information currently available, there are 2,500 active building and construction contractors in Ghana. with participants that range from domestic microbusinesses and independent contractors to international multi-national engineering and construction behemoths," he said.
The Grand Arena in Accra will host the second iteration of ICCX West Africa from April 16–17, 2024.
