The second inter-unit culinary competition of the Ghana Armed Forces Catering Training School (CATS) has been won by the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC).
The first runner-up Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) and the second runner-up Engineer Regiment were defeated by GAFCSC to claim victory.
The competition, in which 10 units took part, was a part of the Ghana Armed Forces' (GAF) initiatives to enhance the culinary expertise of military cooks.
The tournament, which was run under the direction of the GAF's Military Academy Training Schools (MATS), had as its topic "Unearthing the culinary skills of military chefs."
The celebration also included a competition for stripping and assembling rifles among the Navy, Army, and Air Force. entertainment for the spectators who enjoyed the competition.
Additionally, there was an eating contest between the participating units.
Brigadier General Paul Seidu Tanye Kuleno, Quality Assistant Commandant of TRADOC, stated that since its founding, GAFCSC has provided GAF troops, their families, and the general public with high-quality, ongoing civil catering and food service training.
The annual competition was established to pit the best chefs from the various units against one another in order to demonstrate their skills and expertise in their chosen trade with the colours, he said, noting that it was the only unit authorised within the GAF to train chefs and cook service personnel with hospitality and catering services skills.
"Events of this nature will go a long way to enhance the skills of military chefs, advance the cause of sustaining troops in the field, and more importantly, provide nutritionally balanced food in order to maintain good morale among troops," Brig. Gen. Kuleno said.
