Emdee Tiamiyu, a YouTube influencer, is currently the most despised person in Nigeria as a result of his interview with BBC News.

If you haven't been online recently, you may not be aware that new immigration regulations will prevent the majority of overseas students from bringing their families to the UK. Tuesday, May 23, 2023 saw the announcement of these guidelines.

According to Standard UK, the British government said that from 16,000 in 2019 to 136,000 last year, the number of dependant visas awarded to those travelling to Britain with overseas students had surged eight-fold.

At the moment, master's students are allowed to travel with their spouses and kids and remain in the nation for two years after their education is through. New laws, however, will take away these privileges. Many postgraduate students will be subject to the ban, while Ph.D. students are exempt. The Government stated that maintenance and attendance standards will be evaluated as part of the plans. Two days before official data are anticipated to show that legal migration has reached a record 700,000 this year, the announcement was made.

This came immediately after a BBC News interview in which a Nigerian YouTuber by the name of Emdee Tiamiyu claimed that rather than pursuing their educational goals, the majority of Nigerian students "hide behind studentship" to send their family to the UK in search of greener pastures.

He is currently one of the most despised Nigerians online as a result of his interview. He has faced criticism, with some threatening him and others outing him. Here is all the information you require about this YouTuber.

EMDEE TIAMIYU’S INTERVIEW WITH THE BBC

Emdee Tiamiyu, a Nigerian YouTuber, claimed in a BBC interview that Nigerian students don't go to the UK for degrees, but rather for better job opportunities.

Emdee Tiamiyu had earlier claimed in a BBC interview that "It is not as though they [Nigerian students] need the degree, they need the degree as an entrance route to enter the country. Therefore, a lot of these people's priorities quickly changed. The issue is not really with their schooling.”

"We're starting to notice that many people only conceal themselves behind the studentship. Therefore, the'student thing' is untrue; they don't actually require degrees, he claims.

Although the majority of people truly wish to study, Mr. Tiamiyu contends that the minority that do not is expanding.

He also discussed how some people create false marriages in order to enter the UK. According to Mr. Tiamiyu, family visas may make it more feasible financially because a spouse accompanying the student on the trip can work full-time. He claims that not all of the marriages are sincere. Before traveling, "people would just team up somewhere in Lagos" in a few instances.

According to Mr. Tiamiyu, a YouTube immigration influencer, students who do not prioritize their study risk undermining UK colleges.

If they are unable to obtain a visa for their children or spouse, he believes that some people will reconsider the cost of a UK education.
