Part of the untimely death of a 17-year-old student at St. Monica's Senior High School in Mampong, Ashanti Region, has been linked to the school administration's incompetence.

When Patience Amanyi, a student, reported being unwell, the housemistress, senior housemistress, and other management personnel who were supposed to look after her allegedly showed little concern for her health.

She spent a few days on campus and was essentially left in the hands of her other classmates.

After a few days, the students brought her to the Mampong Hospital on a day when her condition deteriorated, and she passed away that same day.

Since their knowledge of Patience's death is limited, the student's family has wanted further information.  claims that the management's carelessness was a contributing cause of her death.

Board of education investigation

According to Graphic Online, the school board has determined that the headmistress is unaware of what occurs in the various dorms after conducting a preliminary inquiry.

According to a report from a meeting between the Board and the former students association viewed by Graphic Online, "She does not have close contact with the students; there are no meetings with the house mistresses, and the lines of communication between the heads are inadequate."

The board has consequently advised, among other things, a change in housemistresses, better record-keeping, regular house meetings with students, and an examination of the condition of the restrooms.

The headmistress's report to the board was rejected on the grounds that it was riddled with inconsistencies and erroneous facts.

What took place?

According to Graphic Online, Patience Amanyi requested a leave of absence on Saturday, May 13, 2023, citing a headache. This is because the school's medical centre is often closed on weekends.

According to a report by the school's board obtained by Graphic Online, the exemption was apparently granted, and Patience went to the Mampong General Hospital without any adult companion. Her parents were also reportedly not told.

The house mistress allegedly refused to take the exempt form when Patience returned from the hospital since the hospital had not signed it, and she urged the student to retain it.  According to reports, the house mistress informed the board that she believed Patience would go back to the hospital to sign it.

Patience allegedly received paracetamol and malaria medication in the hospital.
