Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the minister of information, has asked that Right to Information (RTI) compliance be included in the performance agreements of heads of public institutions, which is an important step towards increasing openness and accountability.
With the help of this request, all public institutions will be held accountable for strictly upholding the RTI Act 2019 (Act 989)'s requirements for efficient monitoring and assessment.
2019 saw the implementation of the RTI Act, which gives people the right to access information held by public entities.
The Ministry of Information has taken the initiative to incorporate RTI deliverables into the performance agreements of chief directors and coordinating directors in the local government service in order to boost the execution of this important piece of legislation.

Mr. Oppong Nkrumah emphasised the significance of this move in a letter to the Head of Local Government Service, writing that "adding RTI compliance to the performance agreements of heads of public institutions is a key step towards guaranteeing the successful implementation of the RTI Act.
According to the statement, "it will make it easier to keep an eye on and assess their performance, foster transparency, and give citizens the freedom to access the information to which they are legally entitled."
The letter highlighted that leaders of public institutions must complete certain RTI Act deliverables.
These deliverables, which will be integrated into their performance agreements, consist of prompt replies to information requests, the development of platforms for information distribution, and proactive disclosure of pertinent information to the public.
The minister stated that the Ministry of Information will build procedures for observing and assessing the advancement made by the heads of public institutions in fulfilling their RTI deliverables, in addition to integrating RTI compliance into the performance agreements.
To guarantee successful implementation, he promised to offer feedback and frequent reports.
Following prior demands from the minister, compliance with the RTI statute has already been established as a key performance indicator (KPI) for chief directors in the public sector.
