Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti has told the club's board he wants to sign Tottenham striker Harry Kane at a key meeting to discuss transfers.
The Athletic reported that senior figures were set to hold talks over the club's rebuild this summer and beyond, and president Florentino Perez, general manager Jose Angel Sanchez joined Ancelotti at the club's Valdebebas training ground on Thursday.
According to sources familiar with what was discussed, who did not want to be named to protect relationships, Ancelotti asked for Kane to reinforce his attack next season.
The board told Ancelotti they would try to make that happen, although difficulties were highlighted. The Athletic has previously reported Manchester United's longstanding interest — but it remains to be seen whether Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy would sanction a sale. There is no desire at Tottenham to sell Kane, but he is out of contract next summer and could leave on a free transfer.
Asked about Kane on Saturday, Ancelotti said: “I have always said that Kane is a great player, but he plays for Tottenham and we have to respect the player and Tottenham.”
At the time of the meeting, Real forward Karim Benzema's departure was widely expected following a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia, but the club are still awaiting clarity on Benzema's intentions.
