As Inter finished their Serie A season, they warmed up for the Champions League final with a 1-0 victory over Torino.
On June 10, the Nerazzurri will travel to Istanbul to take on Manchester City, but on Saturday, the Coppa Italia champions had league obligations.
The game-winning goal came from Marcelo Brozovic, and Alex Cordaz, the Inter replacement goalkeeper, made an outstanding save to maintain Inter ahead in the second half.
In a week, Inter will face a much stiffer test, but for now, Simone Inzaghi can take pride in a job well done in Serie A.
Romelu Lukaku created space on the edge of Torino's box and had a low strike deflected to breathe life into what had been a lifeless first half.
From the ensuing corner, Stefan de Vrij headed directly at Vanja Milinkovic-Savic, but in the 37th, Torino's goalkeeper was outmuscled.
Brozovic punished Torino with a beautiful left-footed effort that nestled in the bottom-right corner after being given room and time on the outside from about 20 yards out.
Shortly after the restart, Brozovic changed the play, but Roberto Gagliardini mishit his close-range header.
Yann Karomah, a former forward for Inter, nearly had an immediate effect after coming off the bench when he forced a fantastic stop from Samir Handanovic. Handanovic was applauded when he was replaced by Cordaz in the 65th minute.
Soon after, Antonio Sanabria attempted a wide shot, but Cordaz superbly parried it to ensure Inter finished their domestic campaign with a win.
Why does that matter? ideal pre-game warmup for Inter
No accidents, playing under no pressure, and now Inter has a full week to recover before that crucial match against City. Inzaghi could not have reasonably expected more.
Although his team had to fend off several late Torino raids, they have now won their last league match in each of the previous seven seasons.
The three points allowed them to briefly surpass Lazio, who would then need to defeat Empoli in order to retake second place.
