In the FA Cup final on Saturday, Manchester City defeated rival Manchester United 2-1, but boy were they in for a fright.

Ilkay Gundogan opened the scoring in the tense contest within the first 15 seconds, as quick as they come. The German scored the quickest goal in FA Cup final history in response to Victor Lindelof's hesitant clearance.

Despite a terrible start, Jack Grealish was found to have unlawfully obstructed Aaron Wan-Bissaka's header with his hand during a VAR review, and Man Utd were consequently given a penalty. From the spot, Bruno Fernandes restored parity.

Grealish persisted in maintaining his innocence during the first half because he believed he had been unfairly accused of committing an offense while in midair.

Both Man City players and supporters appeared perplexed by the penalty call.

When a player's arm or hand makes touch with the ball while their body has been "unnaturally bigger," the FA handbook's Law 12 states that a handball should be called.

Although the concept of a "unnatural position" is arbitrary, the regulation continues by stating that it occurs when a player's hand or arm is in a position that "is not a consequence of, or justifies, the player's body movement for that particular situation."

The final sentence of the rule read, "By placing their hand or arm in such a position, the player assumes the risk of having their hand or arm struck by the ball and punished."

Tierney made an educated conclusion based on the letter of the law in the case of Grealish's offense, which many people believe was caused by his inability to control the movement of his arm while moving. Grealish was so overcome with emotion that he really put his body in an unnaturally greater position as his hand changed the trajectory of Fred's header, leading to the awarding of the penalty.

Whether he intended it or not, having his hand in that position was against FA rules that state you risk being penalized if you have an unusable part of your body that makes you "unnaturally bigger."
