In what is likely his final game, Christopher Nkunku helped RB Leipzig win the DFB-Pokal on Saturday by scoring and providing an assist.
In the DFB-Pokal final on Saturday at the Olympiastadion, RB Leipzig defeated Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0 with goals from Christopher Nkunku and Dominik Szoboszlai.
Nkunku defeated Kevin Trapp with a deflected shot 71 minutes into a close match in Berlin, presumably his final game for Leipzig amid rumors he is ready to join Chelsea.
The lackluster Eintracht team posed little threat to Leipzig, and Marco Rose's club sealed the victory when Nkunku changed roles and set up Szoboszlai's goal five minutes from time.
As a result, Leipzig finished a third-place Bundesliga campaign with a major trophy, their second in as many years, while Eintracht's final match under Oliver Glasner was a disaster.
After a quick counterattack, Timo Werner missed a wonderful opportunity to give Leipzig the lead by sidefooting straight at Trapp after four minutes.
Randal Despite Kolo Muani's tight-angle shot into the side netting and Nkunku's last-ditch challenge at the other end, neither team was able to break down their opponents in the cagey first half.
After the break, Eintracht became more of a danger, but when given their best chance to score, Mario Gotze volleyed straight at Janis Blaswich, and Glasner's team was soon punished.
Nkunku scored the opening goal in a stunning stroke of luck, cutting in from the left and seeing his shot deflect twice to beat the unfortunate Trapp.
From that point on, though, Eintracht never seemed to be able to come back, and Leipzig put the outcome beyond any reasonable doubt when Szoboszlai shot into the bottom-left corner after a controlled play by Nkunku.
Why does that matter? Leipzig keep going Pokal rule
Leipzig has been a DFB-Pokal expert recently, reaching four of the last five finals and winning the last two of those, much to the dismay of the rest of Germany.
With their triumph on Saturday, Leipzig doubled their total number of significant trophies and became the ninth different club to successfully defend Germany's domestic cup.
