According to a report, Chelsea are preparing an offer plus cash to use the favorite star Thomas Tuchel as bait to sign the Man Utd target.
Among the many challenges Mauricio Pochettino faces at Stamford Bridge this summer is cutting a bloated squad. However, that doesn't mean the new additions are unwelcome, and a more hilarious monetization move kills two birds with one stone.
The Mirror recently reported that Pochettino is 'not convinced' by his two goalkeeping options in attack.
Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy are the pair mentioned, and according to FootMecato, the latter could help bring Andre Onana to Chelsea. Mendy, 31, is a £22m signing from French side Rennes in 2020. The Senegal international was Tuchel's favorite goalscorer during his time at the club, despite Kepa being the goalkeeper. most expensive in the world.
However, Mendy fell behind Kepa in the dissection order under subsequent managers and by FootMercato he was the man to claim the spot.
French state Pochettino will provide Mendy as well as a transfer fee in an attempt to sign Andre Onana from Inter Milan. The 27-year-old is considered a priority goalie target for Pochettino. Onana has impressed this season and is the man with the most clean sheets in the Champions League (8). To be fair, Inter wouldn't have made it to the Champions League final without a goalkeeper of Onana's caliber.
Onana has also been linked with Man Utd and Tottenham, teams with goalkeeping problems.
Hugo Lloris has recently confirmed he will be looking for a new challenge this summer, while David de Gea has yet to sign a new contract. De Gea will become a free agent on June 30. But Chelsea themselves are clearly poised to act in their favor, with Mendy set to be used as bait in an auction to buy more cash.
Mendy's value and therefore how much he will reduce the transfer costs are not given. However, previous reports from Italy have all agreed that Inter value Onana at around €50m (£43m).
Adding fuel to the fire is Mendy's recent transfer of representatives to Fali Ramadani. Ramidani is said to be "very reputable" when it comes to doing business in Italy.
The Evening Standard then reported that Onana's future would end after the Champions League final. Inter hope to spoil Man City's treble offer on Saturday, June 10.
