Inter Mailan manager Simone Inzaghi spoke about his team's loss to Liverpool last season before the Champions
Inter Milan boss Simone Inzaghi still thinks about Liverpool as he prepares to face Manchester City in the Champions League final.
The Italian club reached the knockout stages of the Champions League for the first time in a decade last season but faltered against Jurgen Klopp's side, losing 3-0 on aggregate. It has been a period of advancement for Inter since 2019, reaching the Europa League final, winning Serie A and winning the domestic cup double before this season.
While City were busy lifting the FA Cup, Inter ended the Serie A season with a 1-0 win over Torino to take third place and another season in the Champions League. However, Inzaghi has yet to forget how he feels after his side were knocked out of the European Cup by Liverpool last season and wants to see progress as he sets his sights on beating Istanbul.
"Our record in cup competitions is impeccable, that's for sure," Inzaghi said. “What I said last year comes to mind because I want to play the last 16 against Liverpool again because in my opinion the team could have done better last season.
"Saturday's game will be our 57th game of the season and the most important one. We're heading to Istanbul with a few setbacks behind us, which may hurt us at the moment, but have helped us grow and improve."
Inter emerged peacefully after their final game and Inzaghi will be hoping to keep a clean sheet as the club prepare to face Pep Guardiola's men. He is aware of the difficult task ahead as City continue their journey to a treble and the elusive Champions League trophy.
“We will have to suffer together and play nice football because we have to own them. We have to attack with balance,” he added. “We will prepare for it this week. We hope everyone is back in shape and available. There's hope and then Saturday is going to be a big game we're all looking forward to."
