Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino has been backed to sign his own Zlatan Ibrahimovic from a close Premier League rival.
Chelsea have been asked to sign their own Zlatan Ibrahimovic this summer. Former Blues defender Frank Leboeuf believes Fulham star Aleksandar Mitrovic will be one of his former club's best signings.
Mitrovic has scored 14 goals in just 24 Premier League appearances for Fulham this season. He has missed a number of matches due to suspension after being banned for eight games for shoving the referee during the FA Cup defeat to Manchester United. The top scorers for Chelsea in all competitions are Kai Havertz and Raheem Sterling, each with just nine goals. Christopher Nkunku is expected to arrive from RB Leipzig this summer to strengthen his attacking options, while Romelu Lukaku will return from loan at Inter Milan. But Leboeuf thinks more recruitment is needed and believes Mitrovic is the answer. It can be seen that he has similarities with the great Swedish striker Ibrahimovic.
Writing in his column for Si & Dan Talk Chelsea, Leboeuf said:
“We need a striker, and I think we need someone like Fulham's Aleksandar Mitrovic who will be effective. Mitrovic has a real mentality, he will move the dressing room.
"I think Mitrovic has a similar personality to Zlatan Ibrahimovic. He can be that type of guy, he has a winning spirit. I like soldiers. These guys never blink, they never let go. down, they always face it. I love it. He's done so well for Fulham and he wouldn't have to go that far to join Chelsea!"
Mauricio Pochettino will not officially begin his role as Chelsea manager until July 1. However, his work has already begun to dictate the futures of some players. One player expected to leave is Mateo Kovacic, as Manchester City are about to make a move. However, it is not clear why Leboeuf moved to Etihad. Fulham FC v Crystal Palace - Premier League
He added:
"If he goes to City, where will he play? Will he start Rodri again? No, I don't think so. Do you want to play 20 games a season at City or go to another team that plays 50 games a season? I will be very sad to see him gone. "When he came from Real Madrid, he was not the player he became at Chelsea a few years later. I loved watching him play for Chelsea, I think he fought for the club. But the club has to cut the squad and that's the process and you have to be ready to lose good players."
