According to reports, Arsenal have reached a preliminary agreement with a much-needed winger who has managed to negotiate far better terms than originally offered.
The Gunners may have fallen short in the series, although Mikel Arteta and his teammates are determined to double their achievements this season.
Indeed, The Times recently reported that a dual £170m move for Declan Rice and Moises Caicedo has been green-lit by Arsenal chiefs.
While an update later confirmed personal terms had been agreed with Caicedo, the latest Rice information suggests Arsenal could be beaten by Bayern Munich.
Elsewhere, Arsenal must retain those already available in the face of growing interest from rival clubs. Center-backs Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba are both wanted by PSG, who recently confirmed that Sergio Ramos will be leaving as a free agent.
Elsewhere, winger Reiss Nelson is said to be in talks over a new contract after twice turning down offers from Arsenal.
The club's first two offers are believed to be shorter deals on contract lengths. According to the Daily Mail, Nelson has turned down both and amid interest from Aston Villa, Brighton and Fulham, the possibility of a departure is growing.
However, according to the Mail and Fabrizio Romano, Nelson will now stay at the Emirates long-term. Furthermore, he and his camp managed to negotiate much more lucrative terms.
Indeed, the Mail reports that Arsenal have achieved a "breakthrough" in negotiations and Nelson has "agreed in principle" to an extension of his stay.
While the initial offers did not say much about the length of the contract, the report adds that the new contract will last for four years. Romano has announced there will be a club option for a fifth season, meaning Nelson's future will be in Arsenal hands until 2028.
Furthermore, the Mail adds that Nelson, 23, will now pocket "significantly more" than his current salary of £60,000-a-week. The exact amount he will earn has not been stated, although the terms have been described as "bumpy".
Romano provided a brief update on the story, just tweeting two hourglass icons to signal that Nelson's new contract was only a matter of time.
Staying at Arsenal has always been Nelson's preferred outcome and after increasing his offer, the end is now in sight. Except for one last-minute hitch, the deal will cross the line.
Nelson can have a huge influence on Bukayo Saka
Nelson has only played a total of 590 minutes in all competitions this season. However, he made his mark more in a campaign ravaged by trauma.
Indeed, the right winger is scoring a Premier League goal every 40 minutes and notably the winner against Bournemouth on March 4.
Nelson has to face the formidable Bukayo Saka when it comes to regular minutes.
However, Saka was once again lackluster for the second consecutive season, scoring just 2 goals and 1 assist in the last 10 games for Arsenal.
But with Nelson now set to sign a long-term contract, Arteta may be willing to cut back and change his right wingers more often to ensure Saka stays fresh for a full season.
