According to 90min, Manchester City is still interested in convincing Erling Haaland to sign a new contract with the team this summer.
Due to a release clause in his contract with Borussia Dortmund, the 22-year-old moved to the Etihad Stadium last summer in a deal worth just over £50 million.
Haaland has more than recouped the cost with a string of outstanding performances during his first season, scoring an astounding 52 goals across all competitions, or one goal per game.
A record-breaking 36 of those goals were scored during City's successful Premier League championship defense, which helped the team win the Golden Boot, Player of the Season, and Young Player of the Season accolades.
In addition to winning those individual awards, Haaland has assisted City in moving closer to a historic treble, with Saturday's UEFA Champions League final versus Inter serving as the final piece of the jigsaw following the FA Cup victory over Manchester United the previous weekend.
In March, 90min reported that City wanted to give Haaland a new contract in order to reward him for his outstanding performances as well as to get rid of a few clauses that had been added to the agreement, one of which is thought to have allowed the Norwegian to leave if City received a specific sum of money.
Even though some of the conditions in Haaland's contract aren't in effect yet—one of them is reportedly related to Pep Guardiola's future as manager—90min hears that City is still interested in negotiating a new agreement to keep these clauses from going into effect in the future. However, the players' agents do not believe that it is currently necessary to get rid of them.
Indeed, Rafaela Pimenta, the agent for Haaland, outlined the significance of the stipulations in her client's contract to the Spanish publication AS last year.
When a player joins a team, Pimenta said, "I do everything I can to set up a situation where the key is in their hands." "You go, no? But what if tomorrow you decide you don't want to be there any longer because you dislike it, or if they don't pay you well, or if your significant other wants to live in Paris? When a player lacks discretion, I don't like it. In 25 years, I have completed all the contracts for this company. they are all. No player ever said, "I want to go," and they were unable to follow through.
