Manchester United among the clubs interested in Chicago Fire's USA star Brian Gutierrez
There is growing interest in Chicago Fire's young midfield talent, Brian Gutierrez, with several clubs, including Manchester United, eyeing the 19-year-old player. Scottish Premiership club Rangers is also reportedly interested, but the process of securing a work permit for Gutierrez in the UK may pose difficulties. As a result, Borussia Dortmund, Red Bull Leipzig, and Girona are among the clubs ready to make a move for the USA Under 20 international, as they would not face the same work permit issues.
Gutierrez, who is currently in his fourth season with the Chicago Fire in Major League Soccer (MLS), has already made 15 league appearances this season. Despite his young age, he has accumulated a total of 74 appearances for the team. His performances have caught the attention of scouts, and he has even been considered for a call-up to the senior USA national team.
Due to Gutierrez's importance to the Chicago Fire's MLS campaign, he was not allowed to participate in the Under 20 World Cup this month. The team decided to keep him in the US to focus on their league campaign instead. Fire head coach Ezra Hendrickson explained the decision, stating that while Gutierrez and another player, Chris Brady, expressed their desire to go to the tournament, the team's priority was the Chicago Fire's success.
Unfortunately, the Chicago Fire has been struggling in the league, recently suffering a 1-0 defeat against Cincinnati, who currently lead the Eastern Conference. The Fire finds themselves just two points above the bottom of the conference table. Despite these challenges, Gutierrez's performances have continued to impress, attracting
attention from top clubs around the world.
With Manchester United, Borussia Dortmund, Red Bull Leipzig, and Girona all interested in Gutierrez, his future could lie outside of the MLS. While the work permit situation might complicate a potential move to the UK, clubs in Germany and Spain would have no such issues, making them attractive options for the young midfielder.
As Gutierrez's career progresses, it remains to be seen which club will secure his services. However, his talent and potential have undoubtedly made him one of the hottest prospects in the Chicago Fire and MLS, and clubs from Europe and beyond are closely monitoring his development.
