Liverpool 'are set to offer Barcelona £30m for out-of-favour midfielder Kessie'

Liverpool is reportedly preparing to make a bid for Barcelona midfielder Franck Kessie, who has struggled to establish himself at the Catalan club since joining in July 2022. Barcelona, facing financial constraints, is looking to generate funds and the potential sale of Kessie is one option they are considering. According to Spanish outlet Sport, Liverpool is willing to offer €35m (£30m) to bring the Ivorian international to Anfield for the upcoming season.

Kessie had previously enjoyed a successful spell at AC Milan, where he made 39 appearances across all competitions and scored seven goals. Liverpool is hoping that he can replicate that form in the Premier League as they aim to bounce back from a disappointing fifth-place finish this season. Jurgen Klopp, the Liverpool manager, is keen to revamp the midfield options and sees Kessie as a valuable addition to the squad.

Earlier reports had indicated that Tottenham Hotspur were also interested in signing Kessie and were in discussions with Barcelona regarding his potential transfer. Inter Milan was another club rumored to be pursuing the midfielder. However, with Liverpool now preparing a concrete offer, they may sway Kessie towards a move to England.

Barcelona is currently burdened by significant debts of £1.33 billion (€1.5bn) and is entangled in a corruption case. They are required to raise £177m (€200m) in order to make new signings this summer. As a result, the sale of Kessie could provide them with a much-needed injection of funds.

The potential transfer of Kessie to Liverpool would offer the player a fresh start and a chance to revive his career after a difficult spell at Barcelona. The Reds' interest in the midfielder demonstrates their ambition to strengthen the squad and compete at the highest level in the upcoming season. Whether the bid will be accepted and Kessie will make the move to Anfield remains to be seen, but the situation highlights the ongoing financial challenges faced by Barcelona and the active transfer market pursuits of Liverpool.
