Jadon Sancho has been told by Man Utd that he must 'leave' this summer and Borussia Dortmund are keen to re-sign him.
Sancho is a long-term target for United before his £73m move from Borussia Dortmund ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.
The winger has not lived up to expectations at Old Trafford so far. He's scored just 12 goals and six assists in 79 appearances for United in all competitions.
The England international was sidelined earlier this season because - according to Erik ten Hag - he suffered a decline in 'fitness and mood'. "We want to bring him back as soon as possible, but I can't predict when," Ten Hag said last December.
“Sometimes there are circumstances with fitness and mood. We suffer from quality drops and sometimes you don't know why or what causes it.
"That's what we're doing now to try to get him back there. It's a combination of physical and mental.
Sancho has only made an explosive impression over the past two months and he failed to make a positive impact against City in the FA Cup final last weekend. Earlier this week, a report from TEAMtalk claimed that "Sancho's future at Man Utd is uncertain and a Champions League team is leading the shock transfer race".
Dortmund are said to be "the real candidate to re-sign Sancho and lead the hunt". His future at United is uncertain as 'his recent poor form has been taken into account'.
A separate report from German outlet BILD claims that Sancho 'wants to return to Dortmund' and 'Manchester United have informed him that he will have to leave the club this summer'.
Sancho is looking to 'escape as soon as possible' and Dortmund coach Sebastian Kehl 'remains in contact with his advisers on the Project Elite team'. It is not understood there is a 'buy-out clause' in his contract and with him worth 55 million euros, 'only a loan can be conceivable' to the Bundesliga side.
Meanwhile, Telegraph's James Ducker reports that Sancho is on "loan time" at Man Utd.
"The 18-year-old Argentinian represents the future of United. The proof is that Sancho does not," Ducker wrote for The Telegraph.
“At the age of 23, Sancho is no longer a promising teenager. Those days are over and with £73m he has to deliver more,” added Ducker.
"He is on loan and if anyone makes an acceptable offer this summer - even if it is very difficult to know who and will involve earning a big boost - then you have to wonder if Ten Hag was tempted to take the money and run away."
