PSG win Ugarte race after Chelsea decision

Chelsea have made a major midfield transfer decision which has seen them pull out of the race to sign Manuel Ugarte from Sporting CP.

Both teams willing to pay his €60million (£51m) release clause made talks with Sporting rather straightforward forward but personal terms were where problems began to arrive.

PSG had always been offering more money to Ugarte personally and sent an improved proposal that the Blues did not want to match which left them with no other choice but to leave negotiations.

Caicedo becomes new priority

Signing Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo now looks to be the summer transfer priority at Chelsea for Mauricio Pochettino.

The Blues were working to get a deal done for Manuel Ugarte but were priced out of the move by Paris Saint-Germain. football.london understands the latter are expected to push for a move to sign him in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Bringing in Caicedo and Ugarte was an aim for Chelsea but losing out on the latter looks set to only intensify their efforts to sign the Brighton man.

£52million bid made

Chelsea have made a €60m (£51.8m) offer for a new goalkeeper and potentially give Mauricio Pochettino his first transfer since officially joining the club last week.

Brentford's David Raya, AC Milan's Mike Maignan, Valencia star Giorgi Mamardashvili and Inter's Andre Onana have all been scouted by Chelsea with the latter emerging as the early favourite.

However, the proposal submitted was not for Onana and was instead for a different shot-stopper who also plays in Serie A.

Mount flees cameras on live TV & is finally forced into interview about transfer

MASON MOUNT was awkwardly confronted about links to Manchester United while attending the Spanish Grand Prix.

The Chelsea star initially fled when approached by Sky Sports' Martin Brundle, before finally being tracked down.

After Brundle had spoken to Mount's Blues team-mate Ben Chilwell, the attacking midfielder asked: "What's he saying?"

To which the reporter responded: "He says you're going to Manchester United."

Mount, 24, would not be drawn, laughing before replying: "I'm here to just enjoy the race today.

"Amazing day, I can't wait to watch it."

Earlier on in Sky's coverage, Reece James opened up about Mount's potential Stamford Bridge exit - after his pal ran away from the cameras and left Ben Chilwell to speak on his behalf.

The Red Devils will have to pay £70million plus add-ons if they want to sign Mount.

Chelsea are prepared to let the England star run down the final year of his contract rather than sell him for a price below their current valuation.
