The "Saving Our Democracy: The Spirit of June 4" talk addressed the rising unhappiness with the present administration and the desire to restore democracy.

As the nation faces economic difficulties and ongoing worries about nepotism and accountability, it is time to return to the leadership values shown by Mr. RawlingsFollowing a health walk across the Hohoe township, John Dramani Mahama, a former president and NDC flag bearer, conducted a wreath-laying ceremony at the Evangelical Presbyterian Park in Hohoe yesterday.

Historical background

Ablakwa criticised the current administration's extravagant spending on luxuries, including the President's costly private jet trips despite Ghana's economic woes, by referencing the historical context and arguing that this was an unnecessary burden on the national budget.

President Rawlings never made the decision to use limited national resources for personal comfort, leading a lavish lifestyle during his time in office. such as hiring a private jet at a rate of €20,000 an hour," he said.He described Rawlings as "a modest and down-to-earth leader who truly protected the public purse."

Mr. Ablakwa also discussed the National Cathedral project's controversy and the prior deconstruction of a number of significant buildings to make space for it. He implied that Rawlings would not have approved of such activities, emphasising the need to take note of what the late president left behind.

In contrast to Rawlings' nepotistic-free style of governance, he expressed worries about nepotism in the government.

Ablakwa underscored Rawlings' drive to provide effective leadership, highlighting the former president's dislike of making excuses and his commitment to finding solutions. He bemoaned the absence of such traits in the current political leadership and claimed that the burgeoning generation had nowhere to turn for inspiration.

Echoing Rawlings' commitment to justice and accountability, he encouraged the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice to take action on investigations into the deaths of eight individuals during the 2020 elections.

Zanetor Rawlings, an MP for Korle Klottey and the daughter of Jerry Rawlings, pushed for togetherness and emphasised the need to put the needs of the Ghanaian people first.

She urged the cadres in her speech to defend her late father's beliefs and to remain loyal to their countrymen.

4th of June, citizen-led

Eric Bortey, the General Secretary of the June 4 Movement, and other speakers at the event said the June 4 Movement's emergence and persistence were fueled by citizen-led forces. He said that the rebellion, which included professional organisations, market women, and numerous other regular Ghanaians, had maintained the nation's democratic structure.

Ghana "has become unattractive even to coup plotters," he said, criticising the administration for mismanaging the economy and returning the nation to the days of the Supreme Military Council (SMC).
