After taking over at Tottenham, Ange Postecoglou will become the first Australian manager in the Premier League.
One of eight countries with just one manager, Australia will be the 25th to supply a permanent Premier League manager.
Press Association Sport examines the one-offs in this section.
Australia – Ange Postecoglou
Ange Postecoglou left Celtic having secured a domestic treble
2023: Tottenham -
Postecoglou, the final player signed by the Premier League, brings a substantially stronger résumé to Tottenham thanks to his accomplishments at Celtic. The former Melbourne Victory and Yokohama F Marinos boss was recruited after completing a domestic treble in Scotland to take his tally to five major trophies in just two seasons.
Luiz Felipe Scolari, Brazil
Luiz Felipe Scolari joined to Chelsea as a World Cup winner
Chelsea, 2008-09
‘Big Phil’ arrived in London having won a World Cup with his native country and having brought Portugal to the Euro 2004 final. However, he was only in charge for 25 league games and 36 overall before being fired after the Blues' fourth-place finish in the table, 10 points off the lead, following a loss to Liverpool and a goalless draw with Hull.
Pellegrini, Manuel
Manuel Pellegrini won a league and cup double in his first season at Manchester City
West Ham in 2018–2019; Manchester City from 2013–16
Pellegrini, who is unquestionably the most successful manager on this list, used his success at Spanish clubs Villarreal and Malaga to win the league and League Cup in his first season at City and added another League Cup before handing the reins over to Pep Guardiola, who had a wildly successful tenure. He made a comeback with West Ham for the 2018–19 campaign, overcoming a four-match losing streak to finish in the top ten.
Avram Grant, Israel
During his tenure as Chelsea's manager, Avram Grant almost missed out on winning any awards.
West Ham in 2010–11, Chelsea in 2007–08, and Portsmouth in 2009–10
Grant overcame scepticism at his Chelsea appointment – and a lack of the requisite coaching qualifications – to lead them to runners-up finishes in the Premier League, Champions League and League Cup, but it was not enough to earn him a second season in charge. He later experienced back-to-back relegations while playing for Portsmouth and West Ham, but he also led both teams to FA Cup finals and League Cup semifinals.
Serbia – Slavisa Jokanovic
When Slavisa Jokanovic managed Fulham, he only had one Premier League victory.
