Michael Beale wants to give his Rangers team a "spine" of durability so they can reclaim the unassailable Premiership championship from Celtic.
With their Old Firm opponents winning the domestic triple to make it five trophies out of six in the previous two campaigns, the Ibrox club finished the season without a trophy.
Beale, who succeeded Giovanni van Bronckhorst as manager last November, added Todd Cantwell and Nicolas Raskin during the January transfer window. So far this summer, he has also added right-back Dujon Sterling, 23, from Chelsea, and midfielder Kieran Dowell, 25, from Norwich. Goalkeeper Jack Butland is scheduled to join from Crystal Palace in July.
The former QPR manager responded to a question on how Rangers would catch up to Celtic the following year by saying, "We start how we're ending with our style being very clear, our energy being extremely strong on the pitch in terms of our pushing and the bits out of possession."We'll look to recruit a spine that's enabled to stay at Rangers for the next three to five years to build on. You've seen the start of that with Nico Raskin and Todd Cantwell coming in and Kieran Dowell. "Let's make sure that we're extremely hard to defeat then let our quality show through. With a little bit of experience, but definitely in terms of quality in the last third, we'll look to improve on that.
Whether I was successful in obtaining everyone I wanted will be evident by the look on my face when preseason begins, but in either case, we'll enter preseason the next year with a few fresh ideas that I've wanted to try out.
"For that, we need to go find a specific kind of player. We'll return stronger. If we can reach that point from where we are currently, based on our league form over the past 24 games, we'll be in the mix.
It will be about getting to where we need to be for the March international break and then going for it.
Beale, a former Steven Gerrard assistant coach at Rangers, took over as QPR's manager to begin last season before returning to Ibrox.
