The Ibrox club finished the campaign without a trophy, as their Old Firm rivals won the domestic triple.
Michael Beale wants to give his Rangers team a "spine" of durability so they can reclaim the unassailable Premiership championship from Celtic.
With their Old Firm opponents winning the domestic triple to make it five trophies out of six in the previous two campaigns, the Ibrox club finished the season without a trophy.
Beale, who succeeded Giovanni van Bronckhorst as manager last November, added Todd Cantwell and Nicolas Raskin during the January transfer window. So far this summer, he has also added right-back Dujon Sterling, 23, from Chelsea, and midfielder Kieran Dowell, 25, from Norwich. Goalkeeper Jack Butland is scheduled to join from Crystal Palace in July.
The former QPR manager responded to a question on how Rangers would catch up to Celtic the following year by saying, "We start how we're ending with our style being very clear, our energy being very strong on the pitch in terms of our pressing and the bits out of possession."
"Make sure we're incredibly difficult to beat, then let our quality shine.
"To build on, we'll aim to hire a spine who can commit to the Rangers for the next three to five years.
"You've seen the beginning of that with the entry of Todd Cantwell, Kieran Dowell, and Nico Raskin. With a little bit of experience, but definitely in terms of quality in the last third, we'll look to improve on that.
"Whether I've been successful in obtaining everyone I want will be evident by the look on my face at the start of preseason, but in either case, we'll enter preseason the next year with a few fresh ideas that I've wanted to introduce.
"For that, we need to go find a specific kind of player. We'll recover more powerfully.
"If we can reach to that point where we are today, we'll be in the mix, according to our league form in the last 24 games.
It will be about getting to where we need to be for the March international break and then going for it.
