Shrewsbury's manager, Steve Cotterill, has resigned from his position.
The 58-year-old had already expressed uncertainty about his situation at the team, and the Shrews have now officially announced his departure.
The club issued the following statement: "The club would like to place on record their thanks to Steve for all his hard work and commitment during the last two and a half years, taking us from a relegation place in League One to 12th in the table and also for working from his hospital bed during the Covid-19 pandemic."
Cotterill spent 49 days at the Bristol Royal Infirmary after contracting Covid and developing pneumonia in 2021, and he led the team to 12th place in League One the previous season.
Through the League Managers' Association, Cotterill, who joined the team in November 2020, issued a statement.
I'm proud of the effort that everyone at the club has done over the last two and a half years, he said. "From battling relegation to finishing in the top-half. I have faith that this club will keep improving the following season. It was difficult working through Covid, and I must appreciate my amazing crew for their support at all times.
"I want to thank the players as well. Up to the final game of the season, this incredible group gave me everything they had. They and I had a very close bond.
