Chelsea and Arsenal are both interested in signing Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo this summer.
Chelsea have an 'ace' to beat Arsenal to the signing of Moises Caicedo, according to reports. Brighton's interest in Levi Colwill could help the Blues infuriating Gunners fan Laura Woods.
Arsenal are keen to sign Caicedo in January. Mikel Arteta's side have seen numerous offers rejected for the Ecuadorian star, including one worth £70m. Chelsea are also interested and now appear to be paving the way for his signature. Brighton are keen to re-sign defender Colwill after he was loaned out this season and was turned down a £30m offer last week.
Chelsea want to keep Colwill but may have to sell to move to Caicedo. The Brighton midfielder's future was the subject of discussion on SPORTS on Tuesday morning.
Presenter Woods, an Arsenal supporter, asked transfer journalist Alex Crook about the possibility of Chelsea signing Caicedo. Crock replied
"I think it's quite likely."
Woods responded by gasping clearly before slapping and covering his face with a sheet of paper and making an audible "argh" sound. Crook went on to point to Colwill's potential importance in a possible move towards Caicedo.
He added:
“Obviously Arsenal are the team that pushed him in January. He signed a new contract in January and part of the reason Brighton wanted to keep him at the time was because they assumed there would be more clubs wanting him this summer.
“I think it's because Arsenal are hiding in the back. Brighton's trump card could be their interest in Levi Colwill.
"We know that last week they had a £30m offer rejected by Chelsea for the young defender. Mauricio Pochettino wants to keep him but if somehow they can facilitate a loan or swap. part change related to Caicedo, I think Brighton will be ready for that.
"We know that Alexis Mac Allister could be leaving, possibly going to Liverpool. Brighton are also preparing for Caicedo's departure and they are waiting for replacements."
Woods was quick to praise Brighton for their continued success in the transfer market. But she admits she doesn't want to see Caicedo play green next season.
She speaks:
"I'm not surprised they've got replacements. They're very good, aren't they? They're very good at recruiting, retaining them and offering fair prices.
"I just hope Caicedo doesn't go to Chelsea because I like him at Arsenal, but if that means they have Declan Rice, who knows?"
