With a sponsorship arrangement thought to be worth roughly £5 million per year, Scottish Gas has filled the hole left by the departure of the Scottish Cup.
The energy company will serve as the competition's title sponsor after reaching a five-year agreement with the Scottish Football Association. The agreement will also provide grassroots soccer initiatives a significant boost.
Before the SFA annual general meeting, which confirmed Alloa owner Mike Mulraney as president after Rod Petrie's four-year term ended, the agreement was made public. Mulraney has been replaced as vice-president by Les Gray of Hamilton.
Since William Hill's nine-year sponsorship of the Scottish Cup came to an end in 2020, Scottish Gas will take over as its new title sponsor.
The financing will also aid the Scottish Gas Women's Scottish Cup, whose final was held at Hampden this year for the first time. The men's competition will be renamed as the Scottish Gas Scottish Cup from next season, when it celebrates its 150th anniversary.
Through the agreement, 120 additional week-long summer camps will be made possible, giving 6,000 kids the chance to play football and enjoy free meals.
By working with six clubs yearly to establish the necessary infrastructure and playing conditions, the investment will also support Scottish Para-Football's disabled community projects.
Additionally, Scottish Gas will collaborate with the SFA to develop a program for teams to "reduce their carbon footprint" and look into methods to make Hampden more environmentally friendly.
"I am absolutely delighted to welcome Scottish Gas on board as a committed multi-level partner and supporter of the Power of Football," SFA chief executive Ian Maxwell said. They will assist us in reactivating the oldest and newest cup trophies in international football as part of our 150th anniversary celebrations, bringing both old and new supporters down that well-known route to Hampden.Scottish Gas will support our national game's grassroots influence through this partnership, especially among those who have the most need. We look forward to making the cooperation a reality and showcasing the ways in which we can inspire the country and change lives collectively.
