Due to his scorching performance for the Eredivisie team, the midfielder moved from Ajax to Old Trafford in August 2020. However, during the last three years, Van de Beek has had difficulty maintaining a consistent level of play.
The 26-year-old has made just seven appearances for the Red Devils this season, and an injury that prevented him from playing in the second half of United's season further slowed down his ascent to the first team.
Van de Beek suffered a knee injury during a Premier League match against Bournemouth in early January, and he has only recently begun to return to regular training.
Fabrizio Romano claims that in addition to getting back in shape, Van de Beek will spend the summer considering his options.
While the player "loves the club," the transfer guru tweeted, "consistent playing time is of paramount importance to him."
Throughout his three years at United, including during his six-month loan stint at Everton in the second half of the 2021–22 season, Van de Beek has never appeared in more than six straight games.
His old manager Erik ten Hag, who oversaw his meteoric rise at Ajax, had high hopes for a comeback, but it never materialized.
Van de Beek would have to compete for a spot in the starting XI or leave the team entirely, according to Ten Hag in November 2022, as United had no interest in sending the player out on another loan.
"I don't believe the loan is necessary,"
But for me, he can still find a way. Because of the fierce competition there, it won't be simple for him.
Given that Ten Hag is trying to raise money and reduce the squad's pay bill in order to make a number of summer additions, the news that Van de Beek may decide to go is unlikely to raise any eyebrows within the club.
The Dutch manager is looking to strengthen his team in a variety of positions, with a stronger midfield, a true striker, and a redesigned backline all being prioritized for hiring.
