According to reports, Tottenham Hotspur are hoping to sign a new centre-back during the summer transfer window, with new head coach Ange Postecoglou having approved the plan.
Spurs have had a miserable 2022/23 season, sacking head coach Antonio Conte and then interim manager Cristian Stellini at home for another titleless season.
Their eighth place is the club's lowest since 2008/09, while Tottenham become the first team in 15 years to score and concede more than 60 goals in a single Premier League season.
Understandably, Spurs are hoping to strengthen their defensive core ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.
New boss Postecoglou has been advised on the club's transfer plans and has agreed to sign a new centre-back. Tottenham currently have 3 defenders at the top of the shortlist, in which the most notable name is Manchester United captain Harry Maguire. 90min reported in April that the England international had been offered to Serie A clubs and that his preference if he left Man Utd would be to move to Italy.
Manchester City's Aymeric Laporte, who lost his regular starting place in the 2022/23 season, is also on Spurs' shortlist.
Previous reports indicated that Tottenham and PSG were given the opportunity to sign the Spain international in the summer, although they have now joined Aston Villa's manhunt.
Wolves' Max Kilman has long had admirers in north London and he remains a target for Tottenham.

Real Madrid already lacks depth and their squad has been cut even further following the announcement of several departures this summer. Karim Benzema, Marco Asensio and Mariano Diaz will leave at the end of their contracts, while Eden Hazard's contract will be cut short by a year.
As a result, Real Madrid is in dire need of reinforcements. And they've been linked with a lot of big names lately.
Fran Garcia is expected to arrive this summer while a loan deal for Joselu is also close. The Jude Bellingham deal is said to be going to the final stages. Harry Kane is rumored to be the club's number one target to replace Benzema. And another player they have linked is Kai Havertz.
Havertz is said to have been on Real Madrid's radar for many years. And this summer could have been a good opportunity for Los Blancos to move on. But now that I see it, there is no need to discuss it.
Real Madrid deals a heavy blow to the transfer of 60 million euros players
There have been hints that all parties are interested in making things happen. But as MARCA reports, a move for Havertz has failed. The German is currently negotiating an extension with Chelsea and Real Madrid have not done anything for him.
After a stellar start at Bayer Leverkusen, Havertz became a superstar in football. Things have not gone well for him since joining Chelsea.
He's decent but not outstanding. There's no doubting his abilities though. The Premier League seems a bit too fast and intense for him, but he could be a great choice in La Liga. But at this point, it looks like a move to Real Madrid may not be in the plans. However, with Chelsea needing to leave, things could change very quickly.
